An affidavit is a written statement affirmed or confirmed by oath for use as evidence in court or for other official purposes. An affidavit states detailed facts in numbered paragraphs relating to the purpose of the affidavit. For example, an affidavit for loss of sim card is meant to state the name of the owner of the sim, the network of the sim, the number associated with the sim, the description of loss.

There are different types of affidavits and these affidavits could be required by any agency as a prerequisite for performing an obligation or assistance. A person who makes and signs this document under
oath for his own use is known as a Deponent.

This document becomes valid when signed by either a Commissioner for Oath within the Jurisdiction of a court or a Notary Public.
